Copyright & DMCA Policy

Last updated: June 18, 2026

bigcut operates a copyright response process for unauthorized uploads, internal rights disputes, Dossier or recommendation suppression, and DMCA notices. This page explains how to send a notice, how we may respond, and how we handle counter-notices and repeat infringement.

When to use this process

  • Send a notice if you believe a user uploaded or processed audio without proper authority.
  • Use this process for copyright or authorization disputes involving material processed through the Service.
  • Do not use this process for ordinary customer support or billing requests.

What a valid notice should include

  • Your name and contact information.
  • Identification of the copyrighted work or authorized material at issue.
  • Identification of the account, upload, or activity you want us to review, with enough detail for us to locate it.
  • A statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is unauthorized.
  • A statement that the information in the notice is accurate and, where applicable, that you are authorized to act on behalf of the rights holder.
  • Your physical or electronic signature.

How we may respond

  • We may suspend access, block uploads, disable user access, request proof of rights, or preserve minimum records for dispute handling.
  • We may notify the affected user where applicable law or process requires it.
  • We may keep minimum records needed for security, dispute handling, repeat-infringer enforcement, and legal claims defense.

Dossier and recommendation suppression

  • Valid legal orders, credible copyright or rights-holder claims, credible unauthorized-submission claims by verified organizations or authorized representatives, impersonation, account compromise, forged authority, or serious abuse/security signals tied to publication may trigger temporary Dossier or recommendation suppression while we review.
  • Incomplete, unverifiable, clearly abusive, ordinary metadata, API quality, or End User preference complaints do not automatically suppress a song unless they escalate to rights, impersonation, security, or legal risk.
  • Suppression is not deletion. Release Complete receipts, Selection Proof receipts, lineage, responsible actor resolver records, legal holds, case records, and decision receipts may be preserved for review, compliance, dispute handling, and legal claims defense.
  • We do not automatically disclose individual submitting actor identity, claimant identity, internal evidence, or case notes to API customers, Agent Platform Providers, End Users, or claimants except where legally required, contractually authorized, consented to, or approved through our dispute-response process.

Counter-notices

  • If your access is disabled because of a copyright notice, you may send a counter-notice where applicable law permits.
  • A counter-notice should identify the disabled material or account, include your contact information, include the statements required by applicable law, and bear your physical or electronic signature.
  • If we receive a valid counter-notice, we may restore access if the original claimant does not notify us of a filed court action within the period required by applicable law.

Repeat infringement

  • We may suspend or terminate repeat infringers.
  • Repeat-infringer review may consider prior notices, rights-verification failures, chargeback abuse, and related account or device history where permitted by law.

Evidence preservation and legal hold

  • Account closure does not guarantee immediate deletion or minimization of retained records if a copyright notice, abuse review, chargeback, or legal claim is active.
  • We may retain minimum account, access, billing, consent, and case-management records while a dispute or legal hold remains open.
